BRITS will be desperate to unwind in saunas and steam rooms as the economy reopens following months of lockdown.
But when could they reopen? We take a look below.
When will saunas and steams rooms reopen?
England's hospitality industry opened fully on July 4, with pubs, restaurants and cafes all reopening their doors for 'Super Saturday'.
It is part of the government's gradual easing of lockdown restrictions, with further sectors rumoured to be reopening soon.
This includes gyms and leisure centres, with the government to reveal reopening dates for the sector tonight.
Specific guidance for saunas and steam rooms has not been issued, though these could be discussed alongside the reopening of gyms – as many of these facilities available are at leisure centres.
The Independent reports that spas are awaiting guidance from the government regarding thermal treatments – including steam rooms, jacuzzis and ice rooms.
What will the new rules be?
It is unclear exactly how social distancing could be enforced in a sauna or steam room.
However, Boris Johnson said in June that the government is keen to reopen "close contact services" eventually.
He said: "We also intend to allow some other close contact services, such as nail bars, to reopen as soon as we can; when we're confident they can operate in a secure way."
But nonetheless the government still has concerns about protecting customers’ safety due to the close contact needed in these industries.
A report from British Beauty Council suggests PPE measures as well as strict management of communal areas to keep them disinfected.
It also recommends having hand sanitising stations posted throughout spas.
When will gyms reopen?
Gyms and leisure centres will be given the green light to reopen within days.
Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden is expected to reveal a roadmap tonight (July 9) for how the rest of industries still shut will reopen again to customers.
On July 3, Boris Johnson told LBC that gyms would be allowed to reopen in a "couple of weeks" but the exact date is yet to be confirmed.
Gyms have been closed since the nation went into lockdown on March 23.
