Strictlys Adam Thomas details ‘pinch-me’ moment in Waterloo Road reboot

Adam Thomas talks about joining the Strictly line-up

Adam Thomas has revealed the pinch-me moment he experienced when reprising his role as Donte Charles.

After years of being off-screen, BBC’s Waterloo Road returned at the start of the year with many fan favourites making a comeback.

One of which included Strictly star Adam Thomas and his on-screen wife Chlo Grainger (played by Katie Griffiths) who has now gone to have their own family.

However, Donte’s children in the show are played by his real-life family members, as his son and niece take on the role of Izzie and Tommy.

The 35-year-old spoke about working with his son on the show as he detailed the experience when speaking to Bustle.

He said: “There are not that many opportunities in life, with jobs like this, where you get to work with your family.

“It’s just one of those pinch-me moments.”

Reflecting on one of the first scenes they shot together as a family, Adam admitted he had to take a moment to take it all in.

He added: “It’s definitely an experience that I’ll never forget, put it that way. But yeah, it soon wore off to be fair and we were fighting like cats and dogs all the time!”

As Donte was the first role Adam had which launched his career, he hopes it gives his niece and son the same opportunity.

Since starring as the loveable rogue in the BBC soap, Adam went on to play Adam Barton in Emmerdale for nine years.

Although fans will be seeing him in a different light later this year as he’s swapping the TV dramas for the dancefloor.

Confirmed as one of the 15 people taking part in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, Adam stands a chance of raising the infamous Glitterball.

Speaking about taking part, the 35-year-old said: “I am so excited to be joining the cast of this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.

“I’ve been such a big fan of the show for years, I can’t believe I’m actually doing it!

“I can’t dance to save my life but I’m buzzing to learn and have a good laugh with my pro. Get me on that dance floor… I can’t wait!”

Strictly Come Dancing will return to BBC One and BBC iPlayer in autumn 2023 with further details about air date and start time to be confirmed.
