ROYLE Family star Peter Martin has died aged 82.
The beloved actor played the Royles' neighbour Joe Carroll for 14 years.
Peter then went on to star in Emmerdale between 2001 and 2007.
The star also featured in Coronation Street and Chucklevision.
He first became known in the 1980s for his appearances in TV ads for the Jewson hardware chain.
Today friends and family paid tribute to the great actor.
One pal wrote: "My friend, drinking partner, fishing buddy passed away on Wednesday morning.
"Very sad, many of you will know him from TV.
"RIP Peter Martin, we had some great laughs."
ITV presenter Victoria Whittam wrote on Twitter: "So sad to here Emmerdale actor Peter Martin has died at the age of 82.

"He played Len for many years on the soap. Thoughts are with his family, friends and fans."
Another fan added: "Aw, what a shame. RIP Peter Martin.
"Absolutely wonderful as Joe in The Royle Family. Sad news."
It comes after Caroline Aherne, the show's co-creator, passed away from cancer in 2016.
Later that same year Liz Smith, who played the part of Nana passed away in her West Sussex home.
