NCIS: What happened to Dr Jeanne Benoit? Why did Scottie Thompson leave NCIS?

NCIS Los Angeles viewers were shocked to see actor Scottie Thompson return to the series universe in a guest role earlier this year. Here’s everything you need to know about her original character Dr Jeanne Benoit and why she left the show.

Why did Scottie Thompson leave NCIS?

Susan Scott ‘Scottie’ Thompson was a firm favourite on NCIS where she played Dr Jeanne Benoit.

She joined the show back in season four, before appearing in 18 episodes in total of the series.

During her time on the series, she was known as the daughter of international arms dealer Rene Benoit (played by Armand Assante).

As well as this, she had an on-and-off relationship with NCIS Agent Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly).

However, the last time fans saw her was in the season 13 episode Loose Cannons where she reunited with Tony.

The pair crossed paths again on another case where despite her being married, sparks flew.

After reminiscing about their relationship, she said goodbye to him and this was her last appearance.

Her exit was left open-ended but she never reprised the role again on the show.

She has not given an exact reason for not returning but it probably has something to do with Michael Weatherly leaving the series back in the season 13 finale.

When he left, the actor told the London Comic Con crowd how she was excited to see how the series progressed “on the sidelines.”

She said: “13 years is a long time to be running, it’ll be interesting to see what happens with this.

“I’ll be sitting on the sidelines waiting and watching eagerly to see how it goes down.

“But the rest of the cast is all so amazing, and they’re all going to continue rocking it.”

Since her starring role on the show, Thompson went on to play Vivian Rutledge in the show 12 Monkeys.

As well as this, she guest-starred in series like MacGyver and 9-1-1.

She also appeared in films like Crown Vic, Limbo and Epiphany.

However, perhaps most interestingly, she recently made a return to the NCIS universe in a completely different role.

She starred as Sarah Raines in two episodes of NCIS: Los Angeles in season 11.

She was an agent for the Defense Intelligence Agency working on a highly classified mission.

Thompson has joined the long list of former NCIS stars who have since gone on to appear in multiple roles on the series.

NCIS airs on Tuesdays on CBS.
