Loki is the next chapter in the ever-expanding and interconnected Marvel Cinematic Universe. With over 12 years of history already behind the franchise, fans are keeping their eyes peeled for any returning characters. But is Peggy Carter in Loki?
Is Peggy Carter in Loki?
Loki fans believe they have spotted Peggy Carter (played by Hayley Atwell) in the background of a shot during the show’s first episode.
The Twitter fan account Culture Crave shared a clip from episode one which shows a woman in a blue dress get escorted off-screen by a TVA agent.
The moment happens when Loki (Tom Hiddleston) is trying to escape the Time Variance Authority with the time device he stole from Mobius M. Mobius (Owen Wilson).
When Loki first teleports out of the room, two figures can be seen walking out of a portal and off-screen.
One figure is a TVA agent, however, the other fans believe could be Peggy Carter due to her dress and hairstyle.
The woman is also wearing a TVA collar, which would suggest she is a captive just like Loki, making her another variant.
Variants are people that have fallen out of the Sacred Timeline and have been apprehended by the TVA so that time isn’t disrupted.
However, fans are confused over this moment in the show, as Peggy Carter shouldn’t be at the TVA.
The last time fans saw Peggy Carter was during the events of Avengers: Endgame, after Captain America (Chris Evans) travelled back in time to be with her once and for all.
This may have caused the TVA to get involved, as perhaps Captain America travelling back altered the Sacred Timeline.
This would have forced the TVA to get involved and capture Peggy, however, there is no sign of Captain America.
The scene has caused some confusion over what this means for the timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with many questions remaining unanswered in the episode.
There will be six total episodes in Loki, which will undoubtedly continue to get progressively more confusing as Loki starts travelling through time.
If the woman in the background does turn out to be Peggy, fans should expect the answers to be revealed before the season finale on July 14.
However, Hayley Atwell, who plays Peggy, is reportedly not involved in the show and hasn’t been seen on set.
Then again, Marvel is known for misleading fans before big reveals, so anything is possible during the Loki series.
Fans have shared their opinion on the women in the background of Loki, with many of them replying to the Twitter post.
One fan said: “That’s not Peggy. That’s just a woman dressed in 40’s attire. They’re a time agency, I’d imagine people shop in many different eras.”
Another fan added: “Maybe there’s a variant of Peggy Carter that didn’t wanna get back with Cap and the TVA wasn’t having it lol. Can’t even choose who you date without getting sacrificed for the ‘sacred timeline’.
A third fan replied: “Peggy Carter is an apprehended Variant!”
Loki is available to watch exclusively on Disney Plus.
