An epic new science fiction series is set to hit Sky One and Now this Friday. In Intergalactic, Ash Harper (played by Savannah Steyn), goes on the run with an unruly group of criminals after being falsely accused of treason. Co-star Oliver Coopersmith recently talked to Express.co.uk, and has the scoop on a potential romance between Ash and Echo.

Oliver Coopersmith has hinted romance could be on the cards in the first season of Sky One’s new space opera, Intergalactic.

All eight episodes of the science fiction thriller will be hitting screens this Friday, introducing genre fans to a cavalcade of spacefaring criminals and renegades.

British star Coopersmith, best known for his role in Tin Star, features opposite newcomer Savannah Steyn as galactic runaways, Echo and Ash.

The dashing yet arrogant Han Solo-type enters the picture in episode two, and some unlikely sparks immediately start flying.

While Echo is keen to join the crew of the Hemlock prison ship, Ash isn’t so sure about her new companion.

Coopersmith told Express.co.uk: “I think for Echo, there’s something about Ash Harper which he’s just instantly drawn to.

“She’s sort of fiery and feisty and the first meeting they have is a fist fight and she puts him on his a**e.”

Despite their first meeting ending on a sour note, Echo quickly realises his services are needed and tags along as the Hemlock’s new pilot.

Having met his match in Ash Harper, a young cop accused of a crime she didn’t commit, Echo’s beating in episode two doesn’t dissuade him from trying to get into her good books.

The actor continued: “Something about that is like ‘wow, I’m just drawn to it. I’m attracted to it’.

“That’s what really leads him to become involved with the Hemlock. That’s why he goes back there to find her and see what’s it about and becomes involved with the whole gang.”

Intergalactic’s entire debut season will be available on streaming service Now from Friday, so sci-fi fans will no doubt be binge-watching every episode over the weekend.

Setting the tone for his introduction to the show’s ensemble cast, Coopersmith recalled drawing inspiration from Han Solo and Chris Pratt in Guardians of the Galaxy to get into character.

While romance is the last thing on Ash’s mind at the start of the series, the star hinted their frantic first meeting could eventually turn into something a little more affectionate.

He teased: “As it goes on I think he becomes more and more involved with Ash, and he realises there’s feelings there that might be a little bit deeper than an attraction or a challenge.

“He may develop some sort of relationship with her, but you’ll have to wait and see.”

Ash Harper may be far from royalty, but Coopersmith hinted a Han Solo/Princess Leia dynamic could eventually start to evolve throughout the series.

Furthermore, there’s still endless potential for Intergalactic to expand its sprawling futuristic universe in a second season.

As the series hopefully continues, Ash and Echo could very well become a fan favourite pairing if Sky One decides to go ahead with their latest science fiction offering.

Intergalactic airs on Sky One and streaming service NOW from April 30.
