IAC bosses urged to stop Nella Rose hate train as star tipped for early exit

A former I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here star's sister has demanded ITV bosses stop the "public hate train" from gathering pace against one of this year's contestant, Nella Rose.

Charlene White experienced her own stint in the jungle last year and features as a regular panelist on daytime show, Loose Women. During her time Down Under, her sister Carina was responsible for her social media accounts and she was left shocked by the amount of online abuse her sibling received.

Youtuber Nella, meanwhile, was an early favourite to win the current series – until her well-publicised fallout with Fred Sirieix over comments he made about being old enough to be her dad. Nella stunned fellow campmates when she argued with the First Dates star, believing he "disrespected" her as both her parents have tragically died.

Nella's rant sparked a huge backlash amongst viewers, who called for her to be voted out because of her "overreaction". Now Carina has opened up about the lengths she was forced to go to in order to protect Charlene from the amount of hatred aimed towards her.

She declared: "I hope whoever is running Nella's social accounts protect their mental health because last year when my cousin and I were running my sister's, the comments were awful. I'm a strong person but seeing some of the vile and racist messages towards my sister were heartbreaking."

Carina said she was reduced to tears herself after reading some comments, such was the strength of the vitriol dished out to Charlene, 43. It prompted her to block scores of offenders, thankfully preventing her sister from ever being subject to their messages.

Carina continued: "And one point I broke down in tears but I was just grateful that Charlene didn't see any of the hate as we blocked numerous accounts and deleted hate messages etc so she wouldn't see it when she came out the jungle.

"The I'm A Celebrity team control the public narrative and opinion by the way they edit the content and I hope this evening's show shows a resolution to this Nella/Fred fiasco and they don't allow this public hate train to gather even more speed. That being said, some people are actually insane. I remember someone DM'ing last year saying my sister needs to return to slavery with her ancestors. INSANE."

It comes after another ex-campmate in the form of Nicola McLean shared her thoughts on Nella in an exclusive chat with Daily Star, stating that someone should have intervened in Nella and Fred's spat. Nicola explained: "I don't want to add fuel to the fire, because she might come out and think 'I've ruined my career', but then you've got to learn that you can't speak to people like that.

"I've seen a lot of people saying she's 'cancelled' but I don't agree with all of that. But that's what people like to do nowadays. But I'm more p***ed off that no one said anything. Why did no one get involved? Why didn't Josie say something? Because that's her sort of job on This Morning to lead interviews and stuff. She should've stepped in and said 'Fred didn't mean anything by that."

I'm A Celebrity airs every day on ITV1 and ITVX.
