Emmerdales Bear star unrecognisable as fans discover hidden role

Emmerdale: Faith realises Bear can’t know Paddy’s baby’s gender

Emmerdale viewers first saw Bear make his way into the village back in 2019 when he joined as the secret biological father of Paddy Kirk (played by Dominic Brunt).

Since then, he’s formed a close bond with his son by moving into the infamous Woolpack with him and is currently helping him get through his mental health struggles.

Although he’s remained a much-loved character in the ITV soap since his arrival, it’s not Joshua’s first brush with fame.

Eagle-eyed fans of Emmerdale were gobsmacked when they spotted a younger-looking Bear looking different to his regular bearded role in a 90s show, Heartbeat.

On Thursday, fans saw the actor appear as the supporting character of DI Haggarty, who he played for several months during the start of his career.

Posting a snap of him on Facebook, one fan was in disbelief at the younger-looking Joshua as they captioned the post: “I’m just watching Heartbeat and I’m sure this must be Bear from Emmerdale.”

It wasn’t long before fellow soap fans flooded the comment section to agree with how unrecognisable he looked.

Playing on his name in Emmerdale, one user wrote: “It must be, he was just a Cub back then.”

Another agreed as they commented: “Knew I’d seen him somewhere before Emmerdale.”

A third echoed: “I thought the same thing.”

However, Emmerdale and Heartbeat aren’t the only credentials that the actor has under his belt as he’s also shared a screen with some big Hollywood names, including Brad Pitt and Hugh Grant.

In 2004, he starred in the blockbuster film Troy and was alongside Hugh Grant five years ago in the BBC series A Very English Scandal.

Joshua has also featured in Downton Abbey, Panic Button, The Lighthouse and Devil’s Bridge.

In 2019, the actor touched on how he felt to be a part of the long-running soap as he said: “I am delighted to be joining the cast of Emmerdale.

“Having been based in Yorkshire for most of my life, it’s fantastic to now be filming there too.

“Bear Wolf is a great character and I am looking forward to seeing what’s in store for him.”
