Coronation Street’s Yasmeen abuse ordeal will carry on until Christmas says soap boss Iain MacLeod – The Sun

CORONATION Street’s Yasmeen's abuse ordeal at the hands of her husband Geoff is set to carry on until Christmas, says soap boss Iain MacLeod.

The couple are at the centre of a harrowing storyline that has shocked fans over the last few weeks.

Viewers have been left horrified as Geoff has waged a war of abuse on his poor wife.

This all came to a head on Friday night when the monster advanced on Yasmeen while clutching a bread knife after subjecting her to a tirade of abuse.

However, his traumatised wife fought back and stabbed him in the neck.

After the attack Yasmeen dialled 999 telling the operator she’d killed her husband, but he survived the attack.

From his hospital bed Geoff told police that Yasmeen was a violent alcoholic and that he was sad things ended the way they did.

Now Corrie boss Ian tells us things are set to continue for poor Yasmeen to the end of the year.

Speaking exclusively to The Sun he said: "The timelines have been shunted due to the lockdown but I think it's fair to imagine that it will be this year.

"What form that comeuppance is is in discussion. We wanted a redemptive ending for Yasmeen obviously and the toughest it's going to get for her is over the next months.

"It's towards the end of the year but the key thing is to impart the right message. For the sake of the people it has impacted we have to tell the right ending with some positivity."

He went on: "There's a large chapter to come with Geoff's turmoil being unable to control Yasmeen.

"We never want to excuse Geoff's behaviour or illicit any sympathy for him – but we will explore psychological elements to an abuser.

"Geoff does not find it easy having Yasmeen out of his sphere of influence as the legal proceedings go on."
