For society beauties, the ’tis the season to erect a Christmas tree in the great hall, show off their festive ensembles and make sure their table settings are Instagram-ready ahead of the big day.

Alexandra Tolstoy, Zoe de Givenchy and Emma, the Marchioness of Bath, are among the ultimate hostesses who have shared snaps of their stunning festive set-ups on Instagram in recent days, sparking envy in all who see them.

Across the Channel, socialite Zoe de Givenchy and her family are preparing to spend the festive season at their second home in Champagne.

Mrs de Givenchy, a friend of Princess Eugenie, is married to Olivier de Givenchy, nephew of French designer Hubert de Givenchy.

The couple and their two children spend most of the year in California but jet across to France for summer and Christmas.

Her close friend Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece, meanwhile, has left New York for the five-star Kulm Hotel in the upmarket Swiss ski resort of St Moritz.

European royalty has also gotten into the festive spirit. Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar of Sweden were snapped decorating the family’s tree, while the King and Queen of Spain released their Christmas card with daughters Leonor and Sofia.

It is a more low-key affair elsewhere, with Alexandra Tolstoy, whose ex-husband was dubbed Putin’s banker, making her country cottage cosier than ever with paper chains, festive floral displays and rich table linens.
