Through the various One Direction reunion rumours former bandmember Harry has been cultivating his acting career. His big break came in Christopher Nolan’s 2017 hit Dunkirk where he claimed the leading role of private Alex. In years that followed Harry accepted roles in films including the upcoming Olivia Wilde film Don’t Worry Darling and My Policeman. So far, Harry is the only member of the band who has successfully made it big on the silver screen, but that could all be about to change.

Liam Payne recently gave an interview about his ongoing career and the recent announcement he is performing at the BAFTAs.

He was then asked if him performing at the film awards ceremony meant he was turning his head to acting.

The 27-year-old replied: “I’ve done a lot of auditions, a lot of tapes. The thing about acting somebody told me, it’s very much like: Are you right for the part and is the part right for you?

“I think it takes a lot of talent, luck and judgment going into acting to actually get into a job.”

Liam then gave a subtle nod to his colleague, Harry, adding: “I mean, hat’s off to anybody who does it because it’s a long process.”

He also gave some insight into how well he has been doing in the acting profession thus far.

He continued: “I seem to get through to like the final five or final three people for every role and then not quite get it. Which is frustrating but, you know, that’s how it goes.”

The Strip That Down singer then revealed how close he was to working with Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones director Spielberg.

Liam said: “I’ve had a fair few auditions and I was lucky enough to get into the final five again for one audition that I got to meet Steven Spielberg [a couple of years ago] on my 25th birthday which was quite amazing.”

He added: “But it’s been fairly slow through the pandemic obviously.”

Liam was born on August 29, 1993, so his 25th birthday would have been in 2018.

Currently, Spielberg is working on the film adaptation of the epic musical West Side Story.

The film stars a number of male singing and dancing parts, including Tony, Bernardo and Diesel.

Liam was likely trying out for the musical and playing to his strengths of performing – but it seems he was unsuccessful this time around.

Instead, Baby Driver star Ansel Elgort was cast in the film’s main role of Tony, alongside David Alvarez, Mike Faist and Kevin Csolak.

The singer previously spoke out about wanting to be just like one of Spielberg’s iconic cinematic characters from the 1981 movie Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Liam was asked earlier this year what he would have wanted to do if he didn’t find fame on the X Factor.

He said: “I feel like when I was growing up I wanted to be an archaeologist at one point. I thought it was going to be a bit like Indiana Jones.

“But, it’s probably not like that every day is it? Like using a toothbrush to dig up old bones.”
