DEAR DEIDRE: MY son is refusing to talk to me because I suggested he might be autistic.
He’s 19 and I’m his 54-year-old dad.
I’m not always very thoughtful with my words, and we often end up in screaming matches.
Our most recent one was about how he treats his friends. He’s really blunt with them, which comes across as rude.
Recently, one of my colleagues told me his daughter has just been diagnosed as autistic.
He told me some of the signs she displayed, all of which I’ve seen in my son.

I brought it up with my son the next night, but it caused another huge argument.
Now he’s just refusing to talk to me.
