Freddie Flintoff broke his rib and suffered facial injuries as son gives update on horror crash

Freddie Flintoff has reportedly broken a rib and suffered injuries to his face after he was involved in a terrifying car crash while filming Top Gear.

The presenter and petrolhead, who was said to have been airlifted to hospital via air ambulance after the accident, remains in care according to relatives.

Following a high-speed drive that resulted in a collision, 45 year old Freddie has also been left with a "badly cut face" and other injuries.

At the time, he was filming alongside co-hosts Chris Harris and Paddy McGuinness, but was thought to be the only person in the car.

Thankfully, the family member confirmed dad-of-four Freddie is "OK" in a new interview.

"I know he has a badly cut face and a broken rib. It’s a worry but he is OK," the family member reportedly told MailOnline.

The relative also reported that Freddie's wife Rachael had gone straight to the hospital in Altrincham to be with him after learning of the crash.

It comes after the England cricket star's 16 year old son Corey also shared an update on his condition.

Speaking to the publication about his dad's welfare following the crash, the youngster said the whole family had been left "shocked" by the news.

"He's OK. I'm not too sure what happened but he is lucky to be alive," a relieved Corey shared.

"It was a pretty nasty crash. It is shocking. We are all shocked but just hope he's going to be OK," he added.

Freddie had been behind the wheel driving while cameras filmed him for an episode of Top Gear at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey.

The TV star had been reviewing a vehicle at the time, but temperatures reached 0 degrees Celsius this week, with most parts of the country experiencing some level of snowfall.

A spokesperson for the BBC said of the incident: "Freddie was injured in an accident at the Top Gear test track – with crew medics attending the scene immediately.

"He has been taken to hospital for further treatment and we will confirm more details in due course."

Sources have since told The Sun that "all the usual health and safety measures were in place for filming".

"Filming has been postponed for now and all anyone cares about is Freddie recovering," they added.
