BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker, 44, has revealed that he has hidden his latest purchase from his wife Sarah Walker over concerns that she will “shout at him” if she discovers it in the garden. The star, who shares children Susie, 13, Jessica, 11, and Joe, 10, with his other half, admitted his love of barbecuing has been causing some issues between the couple.
Speaking to Chris Stark and Tom Kerridge on the latest episode of The Pirate Ship Podcast, Dan gushed over his passion for cooking outdoors.
Chris quizzed the former Football Focus host: “You are very passionate about barbecuing.”
“I really enjoy that sort of outdoor, sun shining, cooking for people,” Dan replied.
Pressing the star for more details, chef Tom asked: “So what do you cook on, Dan?”
Before spilling on buying his third barbecue, Dan admitted he was worried his wife would “shout at him” if she was listening to their chat.
He sheepishly divulged: “If my wife ever hears this, she’ll start shouting at me.
“I’m currently on a three barbecue system, but I haven’t got enough space for three barbecues.
“So I’ve got an old gas barbecue wedged in the corner of the garden underneath these trees.”
Tom then highlighted Dan’s fears about getting into trouble with Sarah after spotting him looking over his shoulder during their video call.
He told listeners: “I’ve just got to point out for anybody who is just listening to the podcast, Dan, as he said that, ‘I hope my wife’s not listening’, he actually looked over his shoulder there with proper fear!”
BBC Radio 1 DJ Chris quipped: “Dan is doing what I think happens when you get well into barbecuing.
“It feels a little bit like cheating – you’re cheating on your wife with a barbecue!”

Tom chuckled: “You’re buying another barbecue and you’re hiding it in the garden!”
Dan then admitted: “Yeah, I know.”
He went on to share with the hosts that he and Sarah had already spoken about him spending too much time grilling in the garden this summer.
Dan explained: “I had some drip trays arrive today and let me just say, there was a conversation had regarding the amount of time spent barbecuing.”
It comes after the journalist took to Instagram to share his lengthy preparations for Father’s Day before serving up brisket for his family.
Sharing his cooking regime with his 185,000 followers, the star wrote: “#HappyFathersDay one and all.
“The brisket went in just after midnight at 105 degrees for about 6 hours with ‘Super Smoke’ mode on.
“I set an early alarm to take it out, double wrap it in foil and then chuck it back in. This time it has the meat probe in and we are waiting for the internal temp to reach about 90 degrees. That should take another 3 to 4 hours. I hope this is all worth it.”
