Back in July 2017, Martin Adams was standing on the oche in a high-profile darts competition in Blackpool and tried to steady himself.

Throwing for a match can always lead to a few nerves, said Martin – he’d experienced this first hand throughout his career. But it wasn’t his nerves that were throwing him off the game that day, it was a hot flush.

He said: “In darts, to win a leg, you need to throw a double, the outer rim of the board, and it’s always a tense time. As I stood with my eyes on the double, I could feel the heat rising, gradually taking over my body and my focus. I took a step back and regrouped, but inevitably I missed and lost the match.”

This wasn’t the first time Martin had experienced a hot flush, nor would it be his last, as this is a common side effect of hormone treatment for prostate cancer.

Martin said: “It all started in 2016 when I went to see my GP for advice to stop smoking and he suggested it would be good to do a full range of blood tests. I thought nothing of it and agreed.

“About three or four days later I received the test results and was told that my prostate-specific antigen (PSA) was raised.

“Now, at this stage, prostate cancer was not on my radar. I hadn’t heard of the disease at all, nor did I have any idea what a PSA was let alone what a raised level could mean. I spent a lot of time after that researching the disease and after further discussions with my GP, he suggested there was the potential for prostate cancer, and I was then referred to the Urology Department at Peterborough Hospital.”

There, Martin was advised a PSA level of 22 (which was his result) indicated that there could be cancer in the prostate, but he’d need further tests and scans to define that for certain.

He said: “I’m not someone who sits and dwells on things. My immediate response was if there’s something broken, then how do we fix it.

“An MRI scan showed that there was cancer in the prostate, and though my initial biopsy came back negative for cancer cells, the consultant was adamant that it didn’t look good. He believed that the cancer was in a position that was hard to reach, and so recommended a second biopsy. I respected that process, and I’m glad I did go back, as this time around it revealed a cancer cell. And for anyone who knows cancer, one is enough.

“The only good news to come out of all this poking and prodding was that the cancer had not spread to the bones. A huge relief.”

A decision had to be made about Martin’s treatment, of which there are a handful of options for people with prostate cancer.

He said: “You can watch and wait, which is keeping an eye on the cancer over the long term, and avoiding treatment unless you get symptoms. But for me, it came down to either removing my prostate or radiotherapy and hormone treatment. After talking things through with my partner, I opted for the latter.”

Martin started on hormone therapy to slow down and stop the growth of cancer cells.

He was aware there could be side effects, and that’s when he started to experience new and unusual sensations like being emotional, overtired, and of course, hot flushes.

Martin said: “While they mainly happened at night-time, I’d occasionally experience them out in public. But the worst one happened that day in Blackpool.

“Then around six months after my hormone therapy had begun, over the course of five weeks across August and September 2017 I had 20 sessions of radiotherapy, one a day Monday to Friday with the weekend off. I was there and back in an hour. I am pleased to say it did not cause me any problems and I was able to continue my everyday life, playing in competitions and exhibitions.

“Even though I didn’t win the match in Blackpool, something good did come of my trip. That weekend I met a wonderful lady named Tracy Fletcher, for the first time.

“Like me, her husband had been diagnosed with prostate cancer by chance. They had been watching Jeff Stelling on Sky Sports and googled the badge – a small male figure – he was wearing. After learning about its connection to the charity, Prostate Cancer UK, Tracy’s husband found out more about the condition and soon realised he might have it.

“Sadly, like me, he did. But his journey inspired Tracy to start selling Prostate Cancer UK badges at darts events. And that was how we met.”

Martin wanted to support and make other men aware of prostate cancer. Considering his profile, he asked how he could help.

He said: “It started with autographs and photos and soon we were selling Team Darts shirts with all funds going directly to Prostate Cancer UK. It felt good to be giving back and raising awareness all at once. Her fundraising has gone from strength to strength ever since and she’s raised more than £450,000 now, which is amazing.”

In September 2017, Martin’s radiotherapy ended and test results showed the treatment had worked.

He said: “I stopped all treatment in 2018 and now see my GP twice a year to keep my PSA levels in check. My last reading was just 0.04, which is pretty low.

“Its at this time of the year the sporting world focuses on the great sport of darts, and as a three-time former BDO World Champion, I’m so happy to see that Prostate Cancer UK has been named as a charity partner at the Paddy Power World Darts Championship.”

The charity’s ‘the Big’ 180 campaign sees Paddy Power donate £1,000 to the charity for every 180 scored by players. In addition, the campaign challenges 180,000 fans in the UK to use Prostate Cancer UK’s online risk checker.

Martin said: “While that risk checker didn’t exist before my diagnosis, I now know prostate cancer is curable if caught early, but early-stage prostate cancer often has no symptoms, so it is vital that men know their risk.

“Men are at higher risk if they are over 50, Black or have a father or brother who has had prostate cancer.

“I’d urge men reading this to spend just 30 seconds completing the risk checker. I certainly would have if it was around when I started my journey.”

Betting preview for Liverpool vs Arsenal

Second hosts first in a special Saturday night clash at Anfield.

Last week's home game with Manchester United was built up to be another classic – and it was as dull as you could imagine a top flight game at Anfield could be.

Gary Neville reckoned it was the worst atmosphere he's encountered at Anfield and Jurgen Klopp called on the supporters to give more when the league leaders visit this weekend.

Liverpool secured their spot in the Carabao Cup semis with a 5-1 thumping win over a much-changed West Ham side.

They missed the chance to stay top with that goalless draw last week and will hope to capitalise here.

The Gunners ended two games without a win by beating Brighton last weekend to leapfrog Liverpool.

But they have only beaten Jurgen Klopp's side once in the last ten games between the sides in all competitions…

Liverpool vs Arsenal betting tips

Over 3.5 goals at 31/20 with Ladbrokes – CLAIM HERE

Despite that borefest last week, Liverpool have shown they still have the ability to blow teams away.

The same can be said with Arsenal, with both defences also there to be got at.

The two league games last season between the teams produced nine goals (2-2, 3-2) and that trend can continue into this year. Wouldn't put you off over 4.5 either…

Dominik Szoboszlai fouled 2+ times at 21/10 with Paddy Power – CLAIM HERE

He's been a pivotal player in the Liverpool midfield this season so far.

He also bagged the opener in midweek, picking the ball up in the hole behind the West Ham midfield.

The midfield battle will be key against Arsenal and there's some big players in there, so no reason why it won't be a tasty battle.

Mo Salah to score at 17/10 with Paddy Power – CLAIM HERE

How many times have we seen Mo Salah come up with the big moments?

Couldn't do so last weekend but can make up for it here.

Was rested for an hour on Wednesday night and still scored late on.

Good value for Reds' talisman to find himself on the scoresheet.

Former Love Islander and Made in Chelsea alumni Zara McDermott is not one to hold back when it comes to sharing her beauty secrets, which is great news for her dedicated fan base. And if it's beauty tips you follow her for, trust us, you'll want to take notes on her latest make-up advice!

The 27-year-old documentary maker recently took to Instagram to answer the hundreds of questions and messages from fans, with a few asking about her enviable, full-looking pout. You'll be delighted to learn here's no cosmetic magic here, just an incredible combo of two game-changing products: the Kylie Cosmetics Matte Lipstick in the shade 'Here for It',£22 here, and the MAC Cosmetic lip liner in the shade 'Soar', £20 here.

The MAC Cosmetics 'Soar' lip liner is a mid-toned mauve shade with a smooth and creamy texture that will help you contour your lips while gliding on easily. Shoppers just love the colour payoff as one happy customer shared: "Love this shade. It's great for pinks and nudes. Totally creamy and versatile. Can't go wrong with any of these lipliner colours actually, they're just gorgeous."

The Kylie Cosmetics Matte Lipstick in the shade Here for It is a rich deep pink velvety formula designed to stay put all day without drying the lips out. Beauty lovers can't stop praising both the formulation and the colour: "Absolutely love this lipstick, matte but not dry. I have tried so many and I love them all. I have reordered many times."

The key to achieving a lip filler effect is precision and with a little bit of practice, it won't be hard to get it right. Start by outlining your lips with the lipliner, paying extra attention to the Cupid's bow and the outer corners. If you desire a fuller look, slightly extend the line just beyond your natural lip line, but don't go overboard; we're going for enhancement, not exaggeration!

Now, it's time to fill in the lips with your chosenlip shade. The lip liner acts as a boundary, preventing the lipstick from feathering and creating a clean, polished finish. A pro tip? To avoid any harsh lines and create a natural gradient effect, use a lip brush or your fingertip to gently blend the lipstick into the lip liner. This step ensures a smooth transition from your lips to the outlined area, giving the illusion of enhanced plumpness.

Are you up for making your pout look fuller without needles, but you're on the hunt for a much more affordable combo? We got you! Check out the Elf Love Triangle Lip Filler Liner in the shade 'Soft Pink',£4 here and the Beauty Pie Futurelipstick™ Matte in Baby Beige,£10 here for members, to create the perfect lip filler look without breaking the bank.

I’m a therapist and a mom – here’s why I NEVER ask my kids to help with chores around the house
  • Sam Kelly, 38, from Utah, is a former therapist and feminist coach for moms
  • She has changed the way she talks to her three children about housework
  • Sam explained that the word ‘help’ implies its her job to manage the home

A Utah mother has revealed why she never asks her children to ‘help’ with chores or everyday tasks around the house.

Sam Kelly, a former therapist-turned-feminist coach for moms, shares three children — Hero, 11, Goldie, nine, and Shepard, six — with her husband, Chas Kelly.

After years of trying to ‘do it all,’ she is combatting the patriarchal expectations put on mothers by changing the way they talk to their kids about managing their home.

In an interview with Good Morning America, Sam, 38, opened up about why she made the conscious decision to stop asking for ‘help’ with housework.

Sam Kelly, 38, from Utah, opened up about why she never asks her children to ‘help’ with chores in an an interview with Good Morning America

The former therapist-turned-feminist coach for moms shares three children – Hero, 11, Goldie, nine, and Shepard, six – with her husband, Chas Kelly

She explained Chas had always been a ‘very supportive’ partner, but she still struggled with the invisible labor she was taking on.

She confronted the inequity in their marriage about 18 months ago after hitting her breaking point.

The conversations they had about dividing the management of their household more equally made her realize she was repeating the same pattern with her children.

‘It’s a Friday night and I’m sitting down to make a list, a Saturday chore chart list for my kids, and I was like, “What am I doing? I am doing the exact same thing for my kids that I just spent the past year of my life trying to work with my husband to unlearn,”‘ she recalled.

Sam has since changed the language she uses with her children, an initiative she has shared with her nearly 60,000 followers on Instagram.

‘I try to never phrase “help” when referring to the work of managing a home,’ she explained in a recent post.

‘When we say things like “helping mom,” we’re implying that it’s mom who has the actual ownership over the job of managing the home and everyone else is just “helping” support her in that role.

‘But that’s the message we’re working to deconstruct here. It’s not mom’s job or role to be the one in charge of everything for the home and family while everyone else just chips in and helps here and there. The work of managing a home is 100 per cent of a team effort.’

Sam has replaced the word ‘help’ with ‘work’ and will now ask her children, ‘Hey, can you come work with me to unload the dishwasher?’

She noted that ‘using the word “work” also communicates the message that the stuff that goes into managing a home is actual work.’

Sam is combatting the patriarchal expectations put on mothers by changing the way she talks to her kids about managing their home, asking them to ‘work’ with her instead of ‘help’

‘When we say things like “helping mom,” we’re implying that it’s mom who has the actual ownership over the job of managing the home,’ she explained on Instagram

Sam’s post about teaching children about the invisible load of managing a home has received more than 66,000 likes and nearly 2,000 comments

‘Labeling it as work doesn’t have to be a negative thing. It fact, it’s healthy for kids to see work as morally neutral and something that they can become familiar with,’ she added.

‘Increasing their tolerance of an comfort level with work simply by using the word “work” vs. “help” will increase their resiliency. So let’s call it like it is: They’re not helping you. They’re working with you.’

Sam told GMA that she is also teaching her children to ‘notice what needs to be done in the house’ and then ‘do it’ — a system she calls ‘notice and do’s.’

Instead of giving them a specific task, she will ask them to ‘look around the kitchen and just pick one thing to notice and do.’

“If we don’t have conversations with our kids about what this is and start to teach them, like, how to notice what needs to be done in a home, instead of just waiting for the mom or the woman in the house to do the invisible work … then the cycle is just going to keep repeating,’ she explained.

Sam’s post about teaching children about the invisible load of managing a home has received more than 66,000 likes and nearly 2,000 comments.

However, the mom’s take has been met with mixed opinions, with some fans loving the concept and others arguing their is nothing work with asking for help.

‘This is silly. It absolutely is the job of the parents to manage and oversee their home.’ And the kids are truly “helping.” And helping someone is not demeaning or negative,’ one person responded.

‘This is a very important distinction. I did this with both kids and I have a [14-year-old and 12-year-old] and they do ALL of their own laundry, vacuuming, cleaning their bathroom, and each one has one cooking dinner day per week,’ another shared. ‘This really empowers them and that’s how they contribute to the team of running a house.’

‘Ehh no. The parental figures are responsible of the house,’ someone else argued. ‘The kids learn to do tasks and help with it in a healthy way, but a kid should never feel that is their responsibility to be in charge of the house or like they have equal responsibility as the parents. That is parentifying a child.’

Peter Wright is set to suffer the biggest ranking drop in the history of darts following his shock Ally Pally elimination.

Snakebite was dumped out of the PDC World Darts Championship in his opening second round clash with Jim Williams, who sealed a comfortable 3-0 victory. The two-time world champion and No. 4 seed was a distant second best against his Welsh opponent, averaging a mere 83.87 in the contest.

Wright's poor performance aptly bookends a disappointing year, which began just a few days after he was knocked out in the third round of last year's world championship. As such, he's set to plummet down the PDC Order of Merit, a ranking system calculated using prize money won over the past two years.

Since January, Wright has seen a staggering £485,000 be wiped off his earnings. He was second in the rankings behind Michael Smith at the start of the year, but a run of dismal form ever since means he could drop provisionally down to seventh when the rankings are updated next month.

It is the biggest single sum of money any darts player has ever had removed from their ranking.

Fans on social media thought the threat of dropping down the Order of Merit might have been playing on Wright's mind as he struggled against pre-match underdog Williams at Ally Pally on Wednesday night.

Where will Peter Wright be in the rankings when they're updated in January? Let us know in the comments section below.

"Wonder if the threat of a rankings drop was affecting Wright's performance?" one X user posted after his elimination. Another wrote: "Been poor results wise most of the year but tonight everything was so off.

"The darts he started with definitely didn't help either. I think the PL could well and truly finish him next season, he should decline imo and focus on the main tour and getting back to his best."

A third added: "You worry for Snakebite, that's a big blow."

An AI-powered 'fortune telling' app has been called 'spooky' and 'freaky accurate' for its soothsaying powers—but not everyone is happy about its ads.

Faladdin is a free fortune-telling app available on Android and iPhone which gives users tarot readings, horoscopes, and even AI-powered coffee cup readings.

Its creators claim that it combines AI deep learning with 'mystical disciplines' to give people daily personalised readings.

Users have called Faladdin 'spooky' and 'freaky accurate. One user on the Google Play Store said that the app accurately predicted it was going to rain even though the weather forecast didn't.

"When I first started using the app, it told me to come back tomorrow because it's going to rain. Well, I went to my weather app and not a drop of rain was predicted. The next day I went to a book store […] it was freaking raining."

Others have said the app is "spot on" in its predictions. "Scary how spot on this is for me and my soon to be wife. We read them daily together and we are always astonished by the accuracy and the truth about what is currently happening. I have to check to see if the microphone is permitted to be used by the application because of how it knows what we're going through!"

The app was created by Turkish entrepreneur Sertac Tasdelen, who was inspired to build the tool by his clairvoyant mother.

Sertac said: "Inspiration stuck me in 2010 when me and my friends were enjoying Turkish coffee over dinner. I explained that my mum, a fortune teller in her free time, could read their fortunes from Turkish coffee cups (traditional way of reading fortunes in Turkish and Middle Eastern culture.

Sertac and his friends began sending photographs of their coffee cups to his mother, who would send readings back via email. This quickly grew into a blog and, eventually, an app that could generate personalised fortunes automatically.

  • Man spends months building exact VR replica of his living room – to shoot aliens at home

However, others have criticised the app for the number of ads it sends to free users with many negative reviews on the Play Store focusing on this. Meanwhile, others have said that tweaking the app's settings can throw the AI's psychic readings drastically off.

One user said: "I selected the LGBT option and now all of my readings are horribly inaccurate like one said I'd be buying a car in the near future but I don't even have a licence and another mentioned my sister but I don't have a sister."

It is unclear exactly how the 'artificial intelligence' behind the app generates readings, but one thing's for sure: they're just as authentic those you'd get from a professional psychic, fairground Tarot reader, or the Mystic Meg column at the back of a magazine.

Former Good Morning Britain star Lucy Verasamy looked drop dead gorgeous as she no doubt headed out to enjoy a Christmas event.

The 43-year-old ITV star looked effortlessly chic as she posed in a fabulous velvet outfit which included matching dinner jacket and jumpsuit by the looks of things. With the blazer gapping open to showcase the wonderful textured fabric of her attire underneath.

Lucy, who is now the weather girl for ITV News, stunned showing off immaculately presented make-up that included a smokey eye, fluttery lashes and a nude lip. Her dark-brunette locks were styled into a sleek look and swooped over one shoulder.

To finish of her evening attire she popped on some wow-factor gold earrings. Before taking position in the bathroom for a quick selfie ahead of dashing out.

The TV star captioned the double images that included her looking down and then directly at the camera as "nice Tux", with fans gathering beneath the post with gushy comments. One person said: "Stunning," as another echoed: "Gorg," with a third adding: "Looking fabulous darl."

Meanwhile, Lucy has already proved to be quite the adventurer this year. With the weather expert recently treating fans to a slew of images from a trip to Lapland, in Finland.

The wintery trip looked incredible with icy scenery like something out of movie. Lucy broke up her time in Lapland with braving the minus 20 temperatures and taking some time out to warm herself by a roaring fire.

Items on the itinerary included, staying in a lavish glas pod with a view of the skies and stars, a husky ride, snowy walks and what looked to be a red wine by the fire.

While there did appear to be two glasses, one being a tulip style wine glass and another being a small tumbler, it is unknown if Lucy ventured away with anyone special or perhaps just a good friend. In fact Lucy's dating life is also a bit of mystery with her liking to keep her private life out of the public domain.

Twitch streamers are wearing ‘censor bars’ across their breasts after platform rolled back on allowing ‘artistic nudity’

  • Streamers are now employing ‘censored’ nudity while secretly wearing clothes

Since updating its ‘approach to sexual content’ Wednesday, online live-streaming platform Twitch has seen a new, eye-popping trend among its content creators.

Following the streamer’s loosened restrictions on ‘artistic nudity,’ some of the platform’s users have been chasing viewer traffic with a new tease: simulated, full nudity with fake ‘censor bars.’

Twitch, which rode to success on the popularity of its live streams of video-game players, revised its policy on December 13 — after the platform’s controversial ban of popular new streamer and OnlyFans model Morgpie.

Morgpie was banned after an apparently topless live-feed fundraiser went viral on December 8, only to be restored after Twitch revised its guidelines last week.

Now, a host of other users are pushing the bounds of Twitch’s new policy permitting ‘artistic depictions of nudity,’ including body painting and sexualized cartoons.

Twitch is no stranger to boundary-pushing content, often employing risqué gimmicks that its users have taken to calling ‘metas,’ short for ‘most effective tactic available.’ The acronym first emerged from the realm of ‘massively multiplayer online’ (MMO) games like World of Warcraft

Clips from Twitch streamer and OnlyFans model Firedancer’s Twitch streams, where the model appeared to be nude based on the clever placement of large black ‘censor bars,’ spread across social media, garnering over 100,000 views in one day for the original video on her page

Twitch is no stranger to boundary-pushing content, often employing risqué gimmicks that its users have called ‘metas,’ short for ‘most effective tactic available.’

The ‘metas’ — an acronym lifted from the realm of ‘massively multiplayer online’ games like World of Warcraft — have come to include self-explanatory titillating content like the ‘hot tub meta’ trend of 2021 and the more baffling ‘fart meta.’

The new ‘topless meta’ and its faux-‘censor bar’ variations are just the latest strategy that some Twitch users have deployed to monetize their streaming content on the platform.

‘It is hilarious and shocking what black bars do to the imagination,’ Twitch streamer and OnlyFans model Firedancer posted to X after her own viral ‘nude’ appearance.

While the tactic has surely drawn attention, some users voiced annoyance with Twitch’s confusing policies and marketing itself. ‘I’m just sick of them trying to have their cake and eat it too by advertising themselves as family-friendly,’ one user posted to Reddit

Clips from Firedancer’s Twitch streams, where the model appeared nude based on the clever placement of large black ‘censor bars,’ spread across social media, garnering over 100,000 views in one day for the original video on her page.

The video includes a moment where a glitch dropped the censor bars, revealing that Firedancer had been wearing a bra the whole time.

While the tactic undoubtedly drew attention, some users were annoyed with Twitch’s confusing policies and marketing.

‘Twitch either needs to embrace camgirls and make an adult section, or put an end to this clear softcore pornography,’ one user posted to Reddit.

‘I’m just sick of them trying to have their cake and eat it too by advertising themselves as family-friendly,’ they added.

The live stream was removed from the website shortly after it was filmed, but other users posted clips that are now featured on her Twitch page

‘I’m not anti-sex work or women showing their bodies,’ another user chimed in, ‘but Twitch ain’t the site for that.’

Others were more critical of Twitch for the perceived reactionary turn that led first to the ban of streamer Morgpie and then the new content guidelines.

The viral clip of Morgpie had been filmed as a live stream to raise money for the international nonprofit Doctors Without Borders.

While it is not yet public how much money Morgpie raised, the clip states that she at least surpassed her original fundraising goal of $1,800.

‘Morgpie was doing this stunt for charity,’ one user posted to X.

Twitch banned Morgpie from the website on December 11 and later unbanned her once the guidelines changed

‘She was planning on donating her ad revenue too, money which Twitch will just pocket if they decide to uphold the suspension,’ that user, who goes by Sunupu on the platform, continued.

‘Congrats, prudes, you just robbed a charity.’

Twitch banned Morgpie from the website on December 11 and later unbanned her once the guidelines changed.

Opening up in a YouTube video, Kylee Carter shared more details about the incident, which she said occurred whilst she was on holiday.

Twitch’s new guidelines, published under the heading ‘Updating our Approach to Sexual Content and Content Classification Labels’ in a FAQ last week, hoped, first and foremost, to make its policies less ‘confusing’ for its streamers and viewers.

‘We want streamers to feel confident they understand our rules and viewers to feel confident they will get the experience they expect,’ the company said in its post.

‘The former Sexually Suggestive Content policy was out of line with industry standards and resulted in female-presenting streamers being disproportionately penalized,’ Twitch added.

With the new changes, Twitch streamers will be permitted to broadcast content that ‘deliberately highlight[s] breasts, buttocks or pelvic region,’ even when fully clothed,’ so long as the content is appropriately labeled.

Among the content now allowed, Twitch will permit performers on the platform to engage in body painting and strip teases that include ‘twerking, grinding, and pole dancing,’ so long as the content bears the ‘sexual themes’ label.

Here, too, the platform does have a limit, however: art of ‘fictionalized sexual acts or masturbation remain prohibited,’ the company said.

Cancer symptoms: Top 14 early signs to look out for

A family was left “shocked” after a beloved dad was diagnosed with a deadly cancer. Seamus Meenagh, 54, discovered he had stage four oesophageal cancer in May this year after developing a hoarse voice and difficulty swallowing.

As reported by the Irish Star, Seamus had suffered from acid reflux his whole life and was being monitored in case it turned into cancer. But it was a “big shock” to his wife and daughters when the disease was confirmed.

Originally from County Tyrone in Northern Ireland, Seamus moved to Philadelphia in the US in the 1980s to escape The Troubles. He has since married his wife Kerri and had two daughters Aisling, 21, and Saorla, 19.

Kerri, 49, told IrishStar.com : “Seamus’ acid reflux has been terrible his entire life. He was seeing a GI specialist or gastroenterologist for this, was on medication, and was having regular endoscopies and tests to make sure the reflex didn’t turn into cancer so it was a big shock when he got diagnosed.

“We thought, ‘This can’t be cancer’. He hasn’t seemed sick until recently.”

The family has been told there is no cure for his disease, which has now spread to his spine. Seamus has now given up work as a contractor after taking a “turn for the worst”.

“He’s stubborn and has been working throughout his illness,” Kerri said.

“He’s one of the most sought-after historical plasterers in Philadelphia and recently plastered Carpenter’s Hall, a key meeting place in the early history of the US, with his chemo bag on.

“He’s self-employed so if he’s not working, he’s not earning.”

Finances are now a concern for the family due to his illness.

Nurse practitioner Kerri continued: “Seamus is eligible for disability benefits but that will take a while to come through.

“I have medical insurance through my work so that will go towards paying our kids’ college and any additional care Seamus might need.

“It’s a safety net to ensure premiums can be paid and we can survive if I need to stop work but costs are always a worry.”

Seamus’ illness is now too advanced for surgery.

Instead, he is currently receiving chemotherapy, radiation to the spine. He will also receive immunotherapy to treat the disease.

The treatment is gruelling, though, and Seamus has been left on a liquid diet and in a lot of pain.

Kerri added: “We don’t know if it’s the cancer or the treatment that’s causing him nausea and fatigue.

“Seamus’ sister died of lung cancer at the age of 49 but apart from that, he and his family have remained healthy.”

To support Seamus and his family through the ordeal, a fundraiser has been set up which has raised more than $41,000 (around £32,394).

Kerri added: “Seamus is very popular in the Irish community in Philadelphia. He gave up alcohol years ago and is known as the person to go to if you need to get sober. He’s not a professional but he’s good at helping people.

“I think that’s why so many people now want to help him in his hour of need. Our daughters have been dealing well with Seamus’ diagnosis but they’re home for Christmas. It’s going to be different when they go back to college.

“Seamus is one of 10 children and is the only one left in Philadelphia.

“We were hoping to go back to Ireland in May but I’m not sure if that will happen now. Seamus is maintaining a very positive attitude so we will play it by ear.”

According to the NHS, symptoms of oesophageal cancer include:

  • Having problems swallowing (dysphagia)
  • Feeling or being sick
  • Heartburn or acid reflux
  • Symptoms of indigestion, such as burping a lot
  • A cough that is not getting better
  • A hoarse voice
  • Loss of appetite or losing weight without trying to
  • Feeling tired or having no energy
  • Pain in your throat or the middle of your chest, especially when swallowing
  • Black poo or coughing up blood (although these are uncommon).

If you experience any unexplained symptoms you should speak to your GP.

Zara Tindall says she’s ‘lucky’ her mother Princess Anne didn’t give her a royal title meaning she ‘got to do it her own way’ growing up – and hopes she has adopted their ‘great work ethic’

Zara Tindall has revealed she’s ‘lucky’ that Princess Anne didn’t give her a royal title as she spoke candidly about her family in a new podcast.

The mother-of-three and her husband Mike, who live in Princes Anne’s Gatcombe Park estate in Gloucestershire, were interviewed by former rugby player Rob Burrow on his Total Sport podcast.

During the discussion, Rob – who was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2019 – asked the couple what advice they would give to their seven-year-old selves.

Although she was originally daunted by the question, Zara went on to discuss her role in the Institution – and how happy she is that Princess Anne didn’t force her and her brother Peter to be working royals.

She explained: ‘From my point of view, I was obviously very lucky that my mother didn’t give us any titles so I really commend her on that.

Princess Anne seen with Zara Tindall at Royal Ascot in June 2023. Zara has praised her mother for not giving her and her brother royal titles in a new podcast

‘We were very lucky that we got to do it a bit our own way.

‘My family has a great work ethic as well which I’m hoping they instilled in me and is still going to this day.

‘Hopefully, we can pass it onto our kids. Now, my brother and my cousins love to go back and do the same things and I hope that our children have the same experiences that we did when we were growing up.

‘You don’t really appreciate that until you’re older and you’ve got kids.’

When Princess Anne welcomed her son Peter in 1977, she decided with her then-husband Mark Philips that they didn’t want to give their children the HRH titles they were entitled to in a bid to give them as an normal upbringing as possible.

Zara then said her advice to her younger self would be to ‘listen a bit more’ and work harder at school.

Elsewhere in the podcast, Mike and Zara revealed they affectionately call each other ‘munchkin’.

Mike says: ‘We basically call each other munchkins a lot. I don’t know why that started but it has stuck.

Prince William is known as ‘one pint Willy’ to Mike Tindall because he’s not a big drinker, according to Mike Tindall

‘I will let Zara decide whether she wants to give away what I am down in her phone as…’

Zara replies: ‘He is in my phone as something else and it ends with kitten.’

This conversation then prompted Rob to quiz the rugby star on other family nicknames.

Mike says: ‘For the Prince of Wales, he is known as One Pint Willy.

‘He is known to me as One Pint Willy because he is not the best of drinkers, coming from a sport where it is built on the social aspect and a couple of beers being sunk quite often. That is one I will give away for the Prince of Wales.’

Zara can be heard laughing before saying: ‘Oh my god. You are in so much trouble.’

William, Prince of Wales and Catherine, Princess of Wales burst out laughing as they attend the recording of a special episode of The Good, The Bad and The Rugby podcast, in the Green Drawing Room at Windsor Castle along with with Mike and his mother-in-law, Princess Anne

The Tindalls made the revelations in a special podcast with rugby league legend Rob Burrow, who is battling motor neurone disease, seen here with his family at BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2022

Mike also admits that he dreams of his two-year-old son Lucas becoming a professional golfer – and that he wanted to give him the middle name of ‘Mulligan’.

‘The two year old is where I am pinning my dreams,’ says the 2003 Rugby World Cup winner.

‘I actually wanted his middle name to be Mulligan because if he did become a professional golfer, he would drop the Lucas and just become Mulligan Tindall.

‘I thought that would be the best golfing name ever. Plus Mulligan means the offspring of a balding man, so that was perfect!’

Burrow tells the Tindalls that he has always wanted to deliver the Alternative Christmas Message, which airs on Channel 4 at the same time as the King’s Christmas Message on the BBC

Zara says: ‘I definitely think you could do the other Christmas speech. You would definitely rock it and be a huge inspiration to many people.

‘I’m sure (King Charles) would let you just do your own thing. I hope to see that one time. I think you just record it anyway and send that out there!’
